"It's not a disease, Harry," Ron reassured him.
"You'd think so, the way my Uncle Vernon talked about it."
Harry had just told Ron that he was gay. He was the first person he'd ever told, and was expecting ... well, he didn't really know what he was expecting. Rejection, perhaps?
"Harry, it's not nearly as uncommon as you may think. You might be surprised at how many other wizards are."
That night, at his twenty-first birthday party, Harry told everyone.
As silence took over the room, he turned and went to the bar. He just knew Ron was wrong.
As Harry sat nursing his drink, several people offered him birthday greetings, still looking a bit shell-shocked at his announcement. Granted, announcing that he was gay to the room at large might not have been the best way to do it, but he couldn't stomach saying it over and over again. Besides, half the people in the room were trying to set him up with one witch or another.
"So, Potter," he heard the distinctive drawl of Malfoy, "never a dull moment with you, is there?"
"Come to gloat, Malfoy?"
"On the contrary, I came to buy you a drink."
