Behind the cut are most fics I wrote since joining LJ in 2007. Most are Harry/Draco slash, with some gen, individual character interviews/stories, and other pairings, as noted.

I've listed series, fic exchanges, and gifts, but excluded most regular community challenges and drabbles (though you can see them by clicking the appropriate tags). I've also flagged angst fics, for those of you on my flist that like to avoid the angst.

ETA: Last properly updated April 2010. Additions to that are at the top in blue.

OMG, major fail!!!

My 10-year LJversary was on December 28th. And it completely passed me by!

While posting about a new Appreciation Fest over at [livejournal.com profile] serpentinelion, I was looking back to see where I first posted ([livejournal.com profile] hd_boardgame and [livejournal.com profile] dracoharry100) and realised that I've been on LJ since December 2006 - ten years ago.

Holy crap! How has it been TEN YEARS already?

Anyway ... it's been a great ride: I've written many words of fic, participated in and moderated many communities and fests and met some amazing people over the past decade. I've also been to Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco and Las Vegas - places I might never have gone if it hadn't been for HP cons with my LJ friends. ♥ Much love to all! ♥

I look forward to the next ten years. :)

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Well, how's this for a Christmas gift? I got art and fic gifted to me over at HD Erised!

Oh, yes, I got BOTH! Because the "mystery artist" does not only rock at art but at writing as well. As a whole, this MA painted the most beautiful picture of domesticity between Harry and Draco, it made me melt. And to top that off, it actually consists of several pieces of art with a snapshot story to go with each. Spoiled much? [I'm not complaining]

I don't want to give too much away so you can read my gushing in the comments. *g*

Title: Five Christmas Eves

Art Medium: Graphite on watercolor stock [my not-so-secret fave!]

Summary: Draco is reminiscing over the memorable moments of several Christmas Eves.

Thanks so much to the most amazing 'mystery' artist/author and to the mods for pairing this individual up with my request. I don't even remember what I asked for, but this is PERFECT! And I feel particularly chuffed that my gift was posted on Christmas Day. ♥

Once again, Merry Christmas to all!

What is McGonagall thinking? )
sesheta66: (writing genius)
Requesting input from my flist:

Windows 10 is free until today. I have yet to install it. Were I still on Windows 7, I'd probably not bother, but since my computer came with Windows 8 and I've since upgraded to 8.1, I'm undecided.

I do not like certain things about Windows 8/8.1 but what I don't like about Windows 10 is the automatic updates. I don't like control being taken away from me, whether it's to update at all or the timing of said updates. I don't like that I can't select some things to update and not select others. I don't like that it means an update at sometime in the future could install stuff I don't want without my consent or even knowledge. It's all too Big Brother for me.

So ... like it or hate it? Any problems? All input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Word warring for today can be found here.

Track the entry to see when new challenges are posted and feel free to join in or set your own.

First one starts in just over 10 minutes, at 10:30 Eastern Time, for 45 minutes.

Happy Writing!

Today's theme, inadvertently, is now "Descriptive Writing". I will admit that I struggle with this. I tend to be a plot-driven writer, with emphasis on character. Description does not come naturally to me and I bore easily reading long passages of it. I have a picture in my mind when I'm writing scenes, so I don't actually notice the absence of setting.

I've embarked on a new series of 'cozy mysteries' and today, after much outlining, plotting and character development, I've decided to begin the actual writing by creating settings, utilising all the senses (or at least six - see, hear, touch, taste, smell as well as emotions evoked) for each. Perhaps this approach will enable me to somewhat painlessly blend description into the rest of my writing. *fingers crossed*

Round 1: ~600 words of description in 45 minutes - success!
Round 2: ~615 words of description in 45 minutes - success!

Drop by here throughout the day, if you get a chance. I'd love to have others join in.
sesheta66: (writing genius)
Anyone interested in word warring? I haven't posted to [livejournal.com profile] word_war for ages, and would like to get it going again.

I'll be power writing for the next two days (Thursday and Friday) and was hoping to get some interest going in some word war challenges while I'm working at the library. I thought I'd check in now to see if there will be any interest out there for tomorrow. *crickets*

Library opens at 10:00 but I might try earlier for McD's or Tim's which both have wifi as well. If you are interested, feel free to drop by [livejournal.com profile] word_war and look for posts tomorrow and/or Friday. I'll also post a link here on my own LJ.

I set up the community way back when and anyone is welcome to join. You don't have to be a member to comment, but you do need to join if you want to post a daily challenge.

What are word wars, you ask?

Do you have something that needs writing, but you need a little push to get it done? Try out word wars!

Fanfic, original, whatever you'd like. And you don't necessarily have to write. Maybe you want to edit or re-write or type. No problem! Basically this is just a motivational tool that gives you a short challenge, during which time (we hope) you're able to set aside everything else and focus on writing. ;D

For those that aren't familiar with "word wars" the general idea is:
  • Someone posts a challenge, including a start time and length (usually 30-45 minutes)
  • Others sign up (provide details or not about what you're writing, your choice)
  • When the start time is reached, everyone begins writing
  • When the time is up, everyone stops writing, adds up their number of words, and checks back in.

That's it. Easy-peasy.

Anyone interested in joining me, feel free to comment here and then keep an eye out on the comm tomorrow. Or just go directly there in the morning. I should be checking in sometime before 10:30am, Eastern Time, and I'm hoping to squeeze in three challenges each day.

Feel free to spread the word. All are welcome.
sesheta66: (Highlands Sesheta)
In an effort to make this post just right, I have now delayed for a week. So here it is - not perfect, but hopefully it captures most of what I want. [Apologies in advance to anyone I did not list below - I am bad with names and still a bit tired].

Leviosa was great. I loved hanging out with old friends and making new ones.

I flew in on Wednesday and enjoyed my day with [livejournal.com profile] romaine24 on the strip, where she humoured me and took me around to see a bunch of the buildings (Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris) which were very cool, then introduced me to some amazing crepes. Mmm. We also saw The Jersey Boys which was great: I highly recommend it. The next day we wandered the Luxor and met up with [livejournal.com profile] cleo_jay and [livejournal.com profile] cassie_black12 (our roommates for the con that came all the way from England) at the Mandalay Bay, where I feigned interest in those around me while mainly watching Germany lose to France (boo!) at the Euro Cup. Ah, well.

Then we headed to the Green Valley Ranch aboard a lovely shuttle bus: leather seats, beautifully appointed. And we met a couple of con-goers (one of whom [excited] had roped her friend [looking mildly terrified] into her first con). We tried not to scare the n00bie too much. :D

GVR was very nice and had everything we needed. Good thing, since we never left the place. Didn't even step a toe outside until it was time to return home. :D

The con felt like two in one - a writers' conference (much more so than past events) squished together with a fan-centred convention. Since I fit into both categories, I was looking forward to it for various reasons, though most of all to spend time with friends old and new. After one panel seemed like a very long sales pitch for the presenters' books, I didn't end up attending others by the same folks. Thankfully, the rest I did go to were not like that. 'How to Outline Like a Boss' was cancelled and I desperately needed a nap one afternoon, so I missed some writing and YA sessions I'd planned on. But I still managed to attend and enjoy a fair bit:
  • Academic - Material Culture of the Wizarding World
  • Creativity - Make your own paper wand!
  • Fandom - The Evolution of Fandom
  • Slash - The Writer and the Beta, Going from Fanfic to Profic, From Guns and Handcuffs to Fit Aurors and Receding Hairlines (H/D)
  • Writing - How to Ravenclaw Your Writing, Planning Your Book as a Series, The Structural Underpinnings of Characterization in Harry Potter

And in the 'Just for Fun' category I enjoyed: the Welcome Feast, H/D meetup (I won a Harry Potter pop vinyl in the raffle!), HP trivia (it was hard!), Slash: the Game, the Magical Ball and generally hanging out with friends :) Also, the vendor halls had some most excellent stuff.

*\o/*

The best part, as always: the people! It is incredible to hang out with old friends like roomies [livejournal.com profile] romaine24, [livejournal.com profile] cleo_jay and [livejournal.com profile] cassie_black12 and other familiar faces including [livejournal.com profile] sassy_cissa, [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb, [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules, [livejournal.com profile] red_rahl and [livejournal.com profile] vaysh (all the way from Germany).

I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] piratesmile331 (finally – I feel like I've known her forever and yes, she really is as awesome as she seems) and her lovely daughter. I also met [livejournal.com profile] fantasyfiend09 (who is a most adorable Hufflepuff) and got to know [livejournal.com profile] xterm (whom I'd seen at a previous con but hadn't really spent time with).

Other familiar faces I got to spend a little time with (or at least say hey to briefly) included [livejournal.com profile] furiosity, [livejournal.com profile] alisanne, [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic, [livejournal.com profile] noeon, [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01, [livejournal.com profile] ravenna_c_tan, [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow, [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier, [livejournal.com profile] geoviki, [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl and more! I also got to meet some new people like [livejournal.com profile] gracerene [whose name I've mispronounced (it's Grace Rene, not Grace-er-een) in my head for years], [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion and more whose LJ names I can't recall off the top of my head.

By the way, if I didn't list you, chalk it up to my post-con sieve for a brain. It's nothing personal, I swear. Also, I saw some posts from people that I missed and would have liked to have (re)connected with. D: Maybe next time.

It is such an incredible feeling to hang out with fellow nerds/writers/fans and just be yourself. I have met some wonderful people over the years and have travelled to places I might never have done if it weren't for fandom and those in it with me. ♥

As a follow-up, keep watching [livejournal.com profile] serpentinelion: I will be adding a rec post soon and [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules and I (and [livejournal.com profile] taradiane, though she doesn't know it yet) will be hosting a fest to pay homage to what (besides the books and/or movies themselves) got you into fandom. It might have been a particular person, work of fanfic/fanart, a fanvid, a con, some meta or whatever else brings people in. We're planning to have posting in February, so there will be lots of time to create.

Wow ... long post is long. In a nutshell, I'm very glad I went to Vegas and Leviosa in particular. Vegas ... well, I can say I've been there. *checks off list* It was crazy-stupid hot and people smoke indoors, so those things alone turn me off. Having said that, there are some cool things to see and do AND I needed something fandom-related in my life again; it had been too long. Our fandom is not dead and I'm glad to be a (small) part of it. *squishes to all*

Hello all! Long time no talk to.

As is customary at this time of year, we need 31 Christmas-inspired prompts for the annual Christmas Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] dracoharry100.

Anyone have a suggestion (word/phrase) or three?

Please limit your responses to three, so that others get a chance to prompt too. This is presuming, what with my general absence from LJ, that there are still ten people out there following my posts. :\

Anyway ... thanks in advance for your suggestions! Merry Ho-Ho.

*hugs*

A little over a year ago, I friends-locked my journal (long story short, concern about RL knowledge of online name). Not sure if it's completely okay now, but whatever. :D

I'm now unlocking my fics (a much more time-consuming process than locking everything, because I'm selecting individual entries to make public). I'm working backwards and am currently working on February 2009 stories. That sounds like I've made loads of progress, but since most of my writing was between 2007 and 2009, there's still lots to do. Bear with me.

If you have a particular link / want to read a particular story and you find it locked, drop me a line and I'll see if I can find it and un-friends-lock it.
