Summary: Draco wants to be friends with Harry, and Ron voices his objection.

Draco knew he was greedy. He didn't need to be told that. In fact, he rather disliked being told. It was rude to say out loud, even if everyone within earshot already knew it to be the truth. But then when had the weasel been anything better than rude?

In this instance, he had blurted it out in the middle of a roomful of strangers in a decidedly public manner.

"I'm on to you," the git had said. "The only reason you're interested in being friends with Harry now is that he's got money. Gobs of it."

Draco was stunned at this declaration. "Weaselby, I should think that you would be a more likely candidate for that, given your financial situation," Draco had countered. "Harry doesn't have half the money I do, so what good would his money do me?"

"I don't know, but I mean to find out. I'm watching you, Malfoy. And I will get to the bottom of it. Mark my words."

"I'm terrified," Draco said, suppressing a smile.

"You should be. Harry doesn't need friends like you."

"Ah, but who said anything about being friends?"

The look on Ron's face was priceless.

Perhaps. He hates Malfoy and doesn't think clearly wrt him. And he spends so much time hating the fact that he doesn't have any money that he doesn't understand that other people might not even consider that. But I think Ron means well, and wants to protect Harry. He just doesn't get that Harry doesn't need protection from Draco.

Thanks hun - you're sweet. I didn't really miss being at home, but I did miss the convenience of being here (access to my stuff, and LJ). I missed my fandom! I was on a Harry Potter Fantrip, but I didn't ask anyone in the family group if any were H/D shippers.

I'm already done the series, so you won't have to wait too long. I'm just posting them one a day. I also have some non-H/D (I know, I know ... it happens occasionally) to type up and post. Oooh ... and my new DH-compliant fic that I started this morning. Plot bunnies are driving me MAD. Mad I say!
