Harry arrived home on Hallowe'en in his usual sombre mood. Though he didn't actually mourn the loss of his parents, the day still served as a reminder of all that he had lost.
"Harry, would you come into the kitchen for a moment?" Draco called.
"Sure." Harry made his way into their kitchen to see a tray of caramel apples sitting on the counter.
"What's that?" he asked.
"Caramel apples, obviously," Draco replied with a roll of his eyes. "Last Hallowe'en you mentioned how you'd always wanted one, but that Dudley never left any for you. I thought it was high time you had your own." He grinned. "There's one for each of the wretched years you spent there on this day."
Sure enough, Harry counted ten apples on the tray. "I can't believe you remembered that," he said, Draco's thoughtfulness overwhelming him.
"I remember all the important things."
Harry took his boyfriend in his arms and snogged him until they were both breathless. "Thank you."
Draco grinned. "You know," he said, eyes twinkling mischievously, "the first batch didn't turn out so well."
"No?"
"No. The caramel was just a bit too runny."
"Oh?"
"Mm-hmm. But I couldn't let it go to waste." Draco waggled his eyebrows and led the way out of the kitchen and in the direction of their bedroom, motioning for Harry to follow. "I'm not much for apples myself. I'd much rather have a caramel-coated Harry."
