Draco's Driving Lessons

"I thought you hated all things Muggle," Harry pointed out.

"Oh, I do, but if I'm going to be stuck in Muggle London, or wherever else you choose to drag me that I can't Apparate, I feel that I should know how to drive," Draco explained. It did make perfect sense. It didn't mean Harry had to like it.

"Well …." Harry pondered his reponse, wary of Draco's temper. "You could call a taxi."

"And entrust my safety to a Muggle? I think not, Potter."

"Well, they would be serving you. Rather like a house-elf would."

Draco looked like he was considering Harry's words for a minute. "Nice try, Scarhead. Now shut up and teach me to drive."

"But wouldn't you rather have someone else --"

"No. What's the matter? Afraid I'll show you up? Afraid you're not as good a teacher as all your DA buddies claim?"

Harry seethed. He knew Draco was baiting him, but he couldn’t help it. The Slytherin could always raise Harry's hackles. "Hardly," he said through clenched teeth.

"I think that's it exactly." Draco got up and pushed his face into Harry's. "Scared, Potter?"

"You wish," Harry retorted automatically.

Unfortunately, ten minutes into the lessons Harry realised he was exactly that. Petrified, in fact. Clutching on for dear life, he knew this was going to be a lot harder than the DA ever was.

ART: The fabulously talented [livejournal.com profile] leochi has done a hilarious illustration for this piece, Driving Lesson! You really should go look at it! *dances*

Same thing happened in my house; my 18 year old daughter never even got her learner's permit until she was 16-1/2, and was 17 before she was actually out driving around. My 15 year old, though, has been counting the days until he can get his permit (on his 16th birthday).
It's very nervewracking having your teenage children driving. I've already told them that if they get in an accident and aren't wearing their seat belts, I will kill them myself.

No learner's permit here yet. He's resisting, because he doesn't want to give money to the government. Of course, as time has moved on, he has said, "If someone else wants to pay for my license and insurance and gas ..." to which I laughed quite heartily.

My 14-year-old has driven with his dad a couple of times, and wants a Mustang. *coughs and tries not to panic* Right. So, if he gets a part-time job, it'll take him how many years to attain that goal? Right. No need to worry just yet. I had a Mustang. I know how much power they have. *tries not to fret*
