Draco loved the winter. As a boy at the manor, he had especially enjoyed riding a carriage through the grounds with his mother. She had always taken such pride in the gardens and their glorious flowers throughout the rest of the year, but Draco loved to see everything blanketed in snow. White, pure, and pristine, the snow never failed to remind him of her.
As an adult, he had a whole new set of reasons to love the winter. Well, really, it was only one reason - Harry.
Harry was such a kid at heart, and he brought out the child in Draco that he hadn't known was hiding. Sure, his childhood memories of winter were happy, hot chocolate and cider included. But as an only child, he hadn't spent a lot of time actually playing in the snow. Harry had changed all of that.
He was forever dragging Draco off to do one thing or another. They made snow angels, snowmen and snow forts. They had snowball fights to rival actual battle scenes. They went skating, skiing, show shoeing and tobogganing. At first, Draco was resistant, as he was with most things muggle, but Harry was persistent. Draco found, no matter what they were doing, that Harry seemed to have the time of his life, and his enthusiasm was infectious. He couldn't count the number of times they had collapsed in the snow, wet and shivering, giggling like schoolboys. The two of them were doing their very best to capture a small piece of their lost childhoods. Looking out at the freshly fallen snow, he smiled as his memories of the past five winters washed over him.
As he watched his boyfriend come down the stairs, green eyes sparkling in anticipation, Draco couldn't help thinking that there was no one else in the world he would rather be a kid with.

Date: 2007-03-07 01:01 pm (UTC)I've noticed you're especially talented at weaving your fics so the ending ties in beautifully with the introduction, and there's almost a minor epiphany on our part at the end. Mmm... I'm not explaining this very well, but it's has a nice effect :)
Draco's childhood memories sound enjoyable, but it's wonderful to see he's torn down his barriers and acting childish with Harry :D Such an adorable fic, and yes, I've noticed you have been writing quite a lot of fluff lately *cheers*

Second, stop worrying right now! I know you're just kidding me (I have broad shoulders) ... I figure if you hated my angst, you just wouldn't read it. Hmmm ... how to work 'whipped cream' into angst. Hmm ... *ponders*.

Date: 2007-03-07 05:43 pm (UTC)They both deserve the chance to just be children again after everything that they've gone through. That's what I think, too.

Date: 2007-03-07 11:52 pm (UTC)I personally struggle with writting fluff
Well, the fact that you're playing the hd_boardgame, believe it or not, I think will help with that. I never ever ever wrote smut or crack (fanfic or otherwise) before that (and very little in the way of fluffy, romantic stuff), and it's helped me get past the "I can't write this" phase. I'm still not great at either smut or crack, but I'm hopeful - and I think I'm improving as I write more. So just keep at it.
*squishes you until fluff oozes out*
OK, that sounded gross ... not quite the image I meant to project ... something like a Care Bear squishing you until little Care Bear hearts pop out all over the place. *rethinks use of the word "oozes"*
*shrugs* You get the idea, right?

Date: 2007-03-13 04:19 am (UTC)I bet Draco didn't get a chance to play out in the snow a lot as a kid, either. Sweet to see them discovering fun winter activities together. :)
