"Do you know what I like about you, Malfoy?"

Draco stopped working to look at Weasley. "I daresay I have no idea."

"Neither do I."

Draco felt his face burn. Not that this was new. After all, he and the weasel had hated each other for a long time, but now that he and Harry were seeing each other ...

Harry had told his friends that they either accepted Draco or lost Harry. It had been both wonderful and terrible to hear. He was thrilled that Harry cared that much about him, and was pleased that he would stand up to his friends like that. But he didn't want Harry to always protect him, nor did he want Harry to lose his friends.

Still, Ron's comment stung. He'd thought that they'd got past the outward hostility, even if they weren't exactly friendly. Through gritted teeth, he responded, "Is that supposed to be some kind of joke, a slight on my personality, or your charming way to warm up to me?"

"Oh, no, mate. Sorry! I didn't mean anything by it."

What? Did the weasel just apologize?

Draco's incredulity must have shown on his face, as Ron put his hands up in surrender. "I swear I didn't mean that as an insult. I meant that there's something about you that I suppose isn't half bad."

"Oh, be still my heart. Shall I expect a serenade next?"

"Shut it!" Weasley chortled. "I mean it. You're still pompous and snarky and sarcastic."

"It's all part of the charm that is a Malfoy."

"Er ... right." He rolled his eyes. "Anyway, I don't see a massive change. You still insult everyone, but it doesn't seem so ... mean, I suppose."

"Your compliments will have me in need of a tissue soon."

Draco received a hearty laugh in response to that comment. Wow. That was the first time he had ever got a genuine laugh from Harry's best mate.

"You know, I think maybe you just grow on people." Draco raised his eyebrows at the redhead. "You know ... like a fungus."

Draco threw the closest rag at Weasley's face. "Very funny," he drawled, relieved to realize that he had been taking the mickey. That sort of insult he could handle.

"Oh, I have it! Now I know what it is!"

Draco steeled himself. "Dare I ask? Will you be comparing me to other vegetation now?"

"You make Harry happy."

"What?"

"I said, you make Harry happy. He's my best mate, and he's like a brother to me. He's been through a lot, and he deserves to be happy. And as much as it pains me to admit it, you do that for him. You're good for him. So, yeah."

"Um ... thanks." Draco couldn't find any other words to say.

"Yeah, well, don't get used to it. Oh, and Malfoy?"

"Hmm?"

"Tell anyone but Harry that we had this conversation and I'll deny every word."

Draco smiled broadly. "That sounds fair."

First I think you meant "Neither do I". LOL, I beta for people so I catch things like that.

But it made me laugh. You've captured Ron's natural eloquence (or lack of it in this case).

Their conversation was wonderful and I could really picture it in my head. The ending was hilarious.

I like that Ron can get past the hostilities because he wants Harry to be happy and that's how Draco makes him. Harry deserves happiness, yup. Harry's friends gve the illusion of guards and Heaven help anyone that hurts him.

When I use the term 'the weasel' I consider it a pronoun, like 'my mum' or 'his dad' but I capitalize if used as a proper noun, such as 'back off, Weasel' - like 'good morning, Mum' and 'where is Dad?'

I'm glad Ron is being friendly,happy that Draco makes Harry happy and how that's the most important thing
