Harry chanced a look at the Slytherin table. They were now in their final year, and all students who attended Hogwarts during the war were asked to return, along with those who hadn't. Malfoy sat alone. The few Slytherins there did not speak to him.
A few stray followers of Voldemort had, over the summer, exacted vengeance on the Malfoy family, killing Lucius and Narcissa. Draco had narrowly escaped, and Hogwarts had become his home, the Manor deemed unsafe for him even now. Harry watched him often, and felt a familiar unease in his stomach.
Christmas was coming, and it seemed that it was Malfoy's turn to have nowhere to go. Only he didn't seem to have anyone here to spend the holidays with.
"Thank your parents for me, Ron, but I'm staying here for Christmas."
"But Harry --"
"I'll come for New Year's."
Draco awoke Christmas morning to find one lone gift at the foot of his four-poster. Not knowing who sent it, but aware the teachers were ensuring his safety by searching his mail, he opened it. Inside he found his old wand and a note.
Draco,
I am returning what is rightfully yours. More than that, though, I wanted to offer you something that perhaps I should have all those years ago - my friendship.
Happy Christmas - Harry
Sequel - Better Than I Deserve

Thanks for writing and sharing!
I do love our deal ... and now it's time again for me to fulfill my end.

Date: 2007-12-07 07:22 am (UTC)This is one that rather begs to be continued, I suppose. We'll have to see if any of the other prompts lend themselves to it. I think I've got 26 total to do, so maybe? Not promising, though, since I've too many 'on the go' already. Eep!

But our boy Harry'll take care of him! I absolutely adored the note attached with the wand...
Just beautiful, darling!

Date: 2007-12-07 03:02 pm (UTC)I figured Harry isn't the most articulate, so a short and to-the-point letter was in order. I think Draco will appreciate it, even if he's wary at first. *nods*
