As I bade farewell to Hogwarts after the last battle, I resisted the urge to aim my wand at Draco and yell, "Duck!" Childish, I know, but I think I was bordering on insanity at that moment. The whole 'dying and coming back to life again' thing might have had something to do with that.

It's been a couple months now, and we're suffering through an unbearable heat wave. Honestly, after that Fiendfyre incident, I could use a good dose of winter right now. I swear the sun is hot enough to melt the silverware. Hell, I'm close to melting myself.

You'd think the end of the war, the end of Voldemort, would bring joy. It has, of course, but there's also the matter of those who died. We wanted to do them the honour of recognizing them as a group for their efforts, but also recognizing each person as an individual.

So now we continue to honour each and every one of them on their own too, which has extended the time of grieving. We're all fighting the blues now. I still want to honour the dead, but I have to recognize the toll this is taking on the living.

We are dealing with the after effects of war in addition to the loss of loved ones. But with perseverance, we will get through this. We have to. After all, if we fall apart now, what was it all for?

We need to rebuild and heal the wounded - physically and emotionally. There are casualties on both sides, as is always the case in war. There are no true winners, because there's so much loss.

But I'm a believer in the strength of wizard kind - of humankind. We will survive. And the wizarding world will be better for it.

I look up to see, of all people, Draco Malfoy approaching me. He looks hesitant but determined, as if he wants to say something but doesn't really know how. I know because it's a look I've seen often enough in the mirror.

"Potter," he says quietly.

"Call me Harry," I tell him. He smiles and visibly relaxes.

"I just wanted to say … " He hesitates, looking almost scared now.

"What?" I ask, not unkindly.

"Thanks."

It's my turn to smile. "Don't mention it." He looks at me disbelieving. "After all, I have my own reasons for wanting you alive."

He raises an eyebrow in question before something clicks into place, and his face and shoulders fall. "The life debt," he mumbles.

"Huh," I respond. "I hadn't even thought of that." He looks at me suspiciously. "No, I have another reason." I grin at him; I enjoy making him squirm, although I'm not sure why.

"And what's that?" he asks, a challenge in his tone.

"Quidditch." He frowns in confusion. "You're the only one who ever challenged me, and I'm not ready to give up the pleasure of beating you to the snitch yet. A year off was long enough."

Draco's jaw drops open, not knowing what to make of my last statement. I decide to be the bigger man. "You are welcome, Draco, for saving your life. I personally believe, like Albus Dumbledore did, that you were worth saving. Perhaps someday you'll believe it too."

He nods, seemingly at a loss for words.

"Meanwhile, what do you say to a game of one-on-one? Say this Friday, after Remus's memorial service?"

Not to be outdone, Draco raises his hand. "Sure," he says, and I take his hand in mine, something I suddenly feel that I should have done years ago.

Go get him, Harry!
I'm glad to see Harry feeling a little bit optimistic that things will get better after awhile...

this sucks!

why?

simple math:

7 prompts ... 600 words.

I DEMAND ANOTHER 100 WORDS!!!

(it was simply too sweet to stop at 600! such an evil sounding word, 600.... 700 is much prettier!)

;)
