If by deviating from the plot you mean because the Malfoys were at Hogwarts in the Great Hall at the end of the last chapter, wait for chapter 2 (that part is already written). I was going to include that in this chapter, but this seemed the best place to leave off. So stay tuned!
As for the canon-correction, thanks. But I didn't notice anywhere in the book (correct me if I'm wrong, because I've only read it once, and skimmed over it a second time) that he specifically didn't have a replacement wand. I just figured he likely could have had another (a spare) at the Manor, and been using that. Otherwise, he could have borrowed Narcissa's wand (though I didn't really give it much thought, truthfully).
