"But, Harry, I don't understand." Ron had long ago accepted that Harry was gay, but this ...
"I love him, Ron. And you're my best mate. I don't want to keep things from you any longer."
"But ... it's Malfoy."
"I know," Harry said, his face beaming with pride and unmistakably ... love. Ron was rendered momentarily speechless.
"How long?" he asked after a few moments, not really knowing what else to say.
"Six months."
"Wha? But I didn't ... How? When?"
Harry looked at Ron with a mixture of amusement and ... something Ron couldn't quite put his finger on. He, Harry, the bloody Saviour of the Wizarding World, was blushing madly like a schoolgirl caught staring at her crush.
Oh. My. God. This is really happening. Harry has fallen for the ferret. And by the looks of him, he has fallen hard.
"Never mind," Ron said. He had a hundred questions bouncing around in his head, but decided they could wait until later. He just had one to ask now. "Does he feel the same way about you?"
Harry's smile lit up the entire room as he nodded. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he does."
"Be careful, yeah? I've never seen you like this before, and I don't want the ferret hurting you."
Harry frowned at Ron's use of the term ferret, then looked him in the eye. "You can't help who you love," he said with an earnest expression. "You're not supposed to. That's part of the beauty, the mystery of it."
He's gone right round the twist, he has. He sounds like a bloody romance novel.
"Alright, Harry. You're my best mate, so I'll support you. But don't expect me to like it." He shook his head. "I just hope you know what you've got yourself into."
"I do, Ron. Eventually you'll see that Draco --" (Ron cringed at Harry's use of Malfoy's first name) "-- is the best thing that ever happened to me." Ron gave him a sceptical look. "Right," Harry said with a grin. "Let's get back to planning my boyfriend's birthday party."
"There will be Firewhiskey, right?" groaned Ron. "Because I think I'm going to need a lot of it."

Very well written. I found it hilarious. The best part of it, though, is that you captured Ron's amazing humor perfectly. Throughout all of the books, Ron, without seemingly even knowing it, exudes humor. His mannerisms, personality, the way he handles situations; they're all funny (to me at least, because I'm not sure if I'm the only one out there who will laugh myself to tears over something Ron said even though I've read the books a million times over).
But, anyway...There are many authors out there who don't do this and since Ron's my favorite, it annoys me. I'm not sure if they fail to see the brilliance in Jo's characterization of Ron regarding the humor, or they just don't know how to write it in, but you did it perfectly. :)

Date: 2007-06-05 08:07 am (UTC)Yeah, I thought I'd give Ron a break this time around and show him supporting his friend more than hating Draco.
