Anyone interested in word warring? I haven't posted to [livejournal.com profile] word_war for ages, and would like to get it going again.

I'll be power writing for the next two days (Thursday and Friday) and was hoping to get some interest going in some word war challenges while I'm working at the library. I thought I'd check in now to see if there will be any interest out there for tomorrow. *crickets*

Library opens at 10:00 but I might try earlier for McD's or Tim's which both have wifi as well. If you are interested, feel free to drop by [livejournal.com profile] word_war and look for posts tomorrow and/or Friday. I'll also post a link here on my own LJ.

I set up the community way back when and anyone is welcome to join. You don't have to be a member to comment, but you do need to join if you want to post a daily challenge.

What are word wars, you ask?

Do you have something that needs writing, but you need a little push to get it done? Try out word wars!

Fanfic, original, whatever you'd like. And you don't necessarily have to write. Maybe you want to edit or re-write or type. No problem! Basically this is just a motivational tool that gives you a short challenge, during which time (we hope) you're able to set aside everything else and focus on writing. ;D

For those that aren't familiar with "word wars" the general idea is:
  • Someone posts a challenge, including a start time and length (usually 30-45 minutes)
  • Others sign up (provide details or not about what you're writing, your choice)
  • When the start time is reached, everyone begins writing
  • When the time is up, everyone stops writing, adds up their number of words, and checks back in.

That's it. Easy-peasy.

Anyone interested in joining me, feel free to comment here and then keep an eye out on the comm tomorrow. Or just go directly there in the morning. I should be checking in sometime before 10:30am, Eastern Time, and I'm hoping to squeeze in three challenges each day.

Feel free to spread the word. All are welcome.

I didn't know the word_wars comm was a thing, very cool!! Not quite the same, but similar: the [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers comm has two chatzy rooms, one (hd_writers) for general discussion/commiseration, and one (hd_writers_srsbzns) for dedicated writing sprints. Info, including the chatroom password (bc it's 18+) is here (http://hd-writers.livejournal.com/380036.html). When people are in there it's almost always half hour sprints followed by a five-minute break for reporting back with word counts/making tea/running to the loo/cheerleading/commiseration. There have been two or three of us in there the last few days (I find the live accountability SO helpful!) and I'll be on tomorrow, possibly in the morning but more likely starting at 2:30 or 3 EST, though others may be around sooner. Stop by if you want to check it out! Having more people using it is a great thing!

Oooh. That sounds fun!

*ponders how long I can dump my kids in front of screens before guilt ruins my muse*

Let me see what I can do! I'm a "Maybe".

I second Chatzy! I don't do it enough, but it really helps to have it be so immediate. And in the little gaps between writing, sometimes you can ask questions and get advice to help you move forward. So helpful.
