The Right Wizard
Gellert rolled his eyes as his Aunt Bathilda turned her back, still nattering on about some boy she wanted him to meet. Honestly! Did she think him a child, unable to make acquaintances with other wizards on his own?
" ... top of his class, Head Boy."
He frowned. Perhaps she wanted to ensure he didn't befriend the wrong sort. This bloke - Dumbledore, was it? - sounded like an utter bore.
" ... quite as brilliant as you," she continued.
Not bloody likely, he thought. She turned a hopeful look in his direction. He plastered on his best smile and nodded. Might as well get it over with.
A quarter of an hour later, Gellert found himself sitting across from the would-be bore. His aunt hadn't been exaggerating about his abilities, it would seem, though he looked uncomfortable with all the praise.
"And you've worked with ..." Gellert's aunt dropped several high-profile names, while the boy fidgeted awkwardly. He kept glancing around surreptitiously, but his eyes skirted away as soon as Gellert met his gaze.
This Albus Dumbledore had won more awards than most wizards, and he had only just left school. He couldn't imagine what the man would accomplish - partnered with the right wizard, of course. And Gellert happened to know the perfect wizard.
"I'll just leave you two, shall I?" his aunt said. She bustled out of the room, obviously pleased with herself.
As he watched her leave, Gellert could hardly believe his luck. The door to his future had slammed in his face mere weeks ago, and now a window of opportunity presented itself, beams of a bright future shining down on him once more.
He smiled at Albus. "Sorry about my aunt," he said. "I might be mistaken, but I think she rather likes you." Albus's face went pink. Gellert wondered if, with all his achievements, Albus ever took the time to make friends.
"So, besides becoming the next Merlin, what are your plans?"
"I- I'm not really --"
"Relax! I'm just having you on." Boy, was he skittish. "What do you do for fun around here?"
"There's a Quidditch Pitch not far from here," Albus said. He rubbed his hands together nervously. "I'm afraid I'm not very good."
"Brilliant!"
Albus frowned. "Excuse me?"
"I was beginning to think you were bloody perfect," he explained. "It's nice to know there might be something I could beat you at."
"Oh, I don't know. I've heard you're a brilliant wizard."
Gellert raised a brow. "Oh, really?"
"Mm-hmm." Albus nodded and grinned. "Your aunt likes you too."
Well, how about that. Gellert supposed it must be true, since she'd offered to take him in after he'd been kicked out of school. But she hadn't shut up about boy wonder here for long enough to say anything else.
"She's all right," he conceded.
"We like her," Albus said. The smile he'd briefly let surface faded.
Gellert remembered what his aunt had said about Mrs Dumbledore. "I'm sorry about your mother."
"Thanks."
As the evening wore on, Albus relaxed a bit, but Gellert couldn't help but wonder how the young man before him had done so well and worked with so many high-ranking officials if he could barely put a sentence together.
Only as he observed some of the ornate trinkets on the mantle did Gellert figure it out. He glanced in the mirror and caught Albus staring at his arse! Had it been anyone else, Gellert would have called him on it, advanced on him, maybe even kissed him. But he suspected Albus might run screaming from the room. As amusing as that might be, he thought better of it. Not that he was interested in forming any sort of a relationship with anyone, be they witch or wizard, but he couldn't deny this Albus was striking. And useful.
He needed a partner. Well, not really. He needed someone that could be made to think he was a partner. Someone perhaps a bit naive in the ways of the world, but brilliant enough to complement Gellert. Someone he could manipulate.
Gellert turned around and smiled. Oh, this summer could prove quite interesting indeed. Albus's eyes twinkled as he caught Gellert staring. Boldly, Gellert let his gaze travel the length of Albus's body, taking care to linger suggestively.
When he'd looked his fill, he raised his brows in challenge. Albus blushed but didn't look away. His tongue peeked out, moistening his lips timidly, before he drew his lower lip between his teeth.
Oh, yes, Gellert thought, this would be like taking candy from a baby. He winked at his prey and motioned towards the garden. If he played his cards right, Britain's brightest wizard of the age would be his own personal minion. It was only a matter of time.

Date: 2010-07-07 04:58 am (UTC)I've been slashing these two since the moment they appeared in the books! This is lovely! It's almost as if Gellert has two separate personalities, one that wants to be loved and appreciated and the other that wants power and control. No wonder poor Albus was confused. I feel so bad for him now! *wails* Awesome job, bebe!
*luffles you*

Poor Albus, though.

Date: 2015-08-22 09:41 pm (UTC)Okay, so, this is the first fic I've ever read in my entire life. I had been browsing for J.K.'s interviews about these two when I stumbled across grindeldore community and then this story. Mind you, I had no idea how to use livejournal and had never even heard of fanfiction before. But I remember reading this story and thinking that it was brilliant, and that the person who had written it had to be a genius. I think that I probably thought in that moment that you invented fanfiction. :)
Anyway, I had tried to find more, but as I said, I didn't know how to use lj and so I fumbled around for a bit 'till I discovered ff.net and the rest is a history.
I'm glad to add that six months later I did learn how to use livejournal and came back to explore it. :)
The point is, no matter how many stories I've read, and will read in the future, this one will always have a special place in my heart. With it you opened my eyes to something wonderful, which is a big part of my life and who I am right now. And you know, I really can't imagine a better way to have it discovered than through this story. Even the title of your journal is perfect. :)
So, thank you for writing this and inadvertently leaving a lifelong (positive) impression on my life. :)
