Lovely Weather

"Haaaary! Come help me with my snowman. Pleeeease!"

"In a few minutes," Harry said.

Teddy's laughter pierced through the silence as he appeared at Harry's side. "What're you doin' down there?"

Playing in the snow. Acting like a kid. Trying not to freeze my balls off. "I'm making a snow angel," he explained. "You should try it."

"Nuh-uh. It's too cold down there." Teddy shuddered to emphasise his point.

"Okay, but don't complain if I win the prize for best snow angel in all of Britain."

Teddy considered his godfather with a bemused expression that reminded Harry of Remus. Even after all these years, Harry's heart ached for Teddy, for all that he missed. "There's no such contest!" he declared after much deliberation.

"Perhaps not, but if there were one, I'd surely win." Harry jumped up to admire his work.

Teddy collapsed in a fit of giggles and Harry spun round to see what was so funny. Apparently Harry had sat for too long in one spot. "You might win for biggest angel butt!" Teddy teased through his laughter.

"Why you --" Harry chased him around the yard, only stopping when they both tumbled down the hill laughing.

Teddy stood up, brushed himself off and scowled at Harry.

"What?" Harry barely held back his laughter.

"I'm c-cold," Teddy announced, rather unnecessarily, considering how his teeth chattered.

Harry cast a Warming Charm and watched Teddy's shivering subside and a look of contentment settle on his face. "Better?"

Reluctantly, Teddy nodded. "Can we do that tonight on our sleigh ride?" he asked.

"What? Fall down a hill?" Harry teased.

"No, silly. That Warming Charm."

"Of course." Harry brushed himself off and cast another spell. Much better. "Now let's finish that snowman of yours."

Teddy grinned and raced up the hill, Harry in hot pursuit.

A short time later, just after they placed a hat upon the snowman's head and christened him McFlurry (Teddy's odd sense of humour and love of Muggle fast food had clearly warped his mind), Teddy turned pensive.

"What's wrong?" Harry nudged him. "I think Mac looks great."

"Yeah …" Teddy bit his lower lip, a sure sign he had something to say, and was working his way up to it.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?" Harry reassured him.

"Well, I did something that I'm not so sure about now."

Harry tilted his head, observing Mac from various angles. "Looks good to me."

"Not about Mac, silly." He rolled his eyes dramatically, like only six-year-olds do.

"What then?"

"It's …" He looked up at Harry, then suddenly became fascinated with his boots. "It's about our sleigh ride tonight." Teddy wrung his hands and took a deep breath. "I … um … invited someone to come along." His eyes darted from Harry to Mac and back again. "And I hope you're not mad."

Mad? No. He could never be truly mad with Teddy. Disappointed? Maybe a bit. After all, the annual ride was something they'd always done together, just the two of them. Harry sighed. Kids really did grow up quickly. At six, Teddy had already figured out his friends were more fun than Harry.

"Of course not," he told Teddy.

Teddy's shoulders relaxed and he let out a long sigh. "Oh, good, because he didn't think you'd be too happy."

Since when did six-year-old boys become perceptive? "Have I not met this person before?" he asked, knowing that each of Teddy's friends had joined them for one trip or another. Harry didn't think any of them had felt unwelcome at the time; at least he hoped they hadn't.

"Um," Teddy said, still not looking Harry in the eye. "No, you know him."

Confusion muddled Harry's mind. "I like all of your friends," Harry reassured him.

"He's … um … not exactly my friend."

Harry frowned. "Oh?"

"Yeah. It's Draco!"
