Alone Time

"Argh!" Draco yelled, then picked up a book and threw it across the room. In dramatic fashion, he stormed up the stairs, pushing a couple of second years out of his path en route.

"What's eating him?" Blaise asked.

Pansy rolled her eyes. "What -- or who -- do you think?"

"Potter?"

"Of course. No one gets a rise out of Draco like Potter does."

Blaise considered Pansy's words for a few minutes, replayed the years in his mind, then voiced his thoughts. "You don't think Draco's got some kind of thing for Potter, do you?"

"Of course he does."

Meanwhile, in Gryffindor Tower …

"What did the ferret do this time?" Ron asked in an exasperated tone.

Harry stopped his pacing and turned to Ron. "What makes you think Malfoy did anything?"

"Well, Harry," Hermione interjected, "you have to admit that he is the only one that gets you this riled up."

"Yeah, mate," Ron added. "No one gets to you like this."

"Perhaps if Voldemort decided to rise again from the grave," Ginny joked.

"Ha, ha! You're all very funny." Harry stormed upstairs to their dorm and slammed the door.

"You don't think …?" Ginny asked.

Hermione nodded.

The next day, as they headed towards the Quidditch pitch to watch the final Gryffindor vs. Slytherin match, Pansy and Blaise made a detour towards the Gryffindor stands.

"Oi! Weasley!" Pansy called, motioning Granger and him towards them.

Pansy nearly laughed at the wary looks they received as the two Gryffindors rose from their seats. The way Granger studied them, and the way Weasley's hand twitched over his wand were so predictable.

"Relax," Blaise said derisively. "We're not planning to hex you."

"We just want to talk," Pansy added.

"Oh, really?" Granger asked, as Weasley gave them a dubious look.

Granger began ringing her hands. Weasley began pacing. Pansy rolled her eyes. Blaise sighed.

"This is as exciting as watching bread rise," Blaise deadpanned.

"What if they kill each other?" Granger asked.

"They can't," Pansy explained. "The room is spelled to prevent any major injuries. You helped me cast the spells, remember?"

"I know, but --"

"They could still hurt each other, though," Weasley pointed out.

"As if they don't do that on a regular basis already," Blaise retorted.

"Good point," Pansy agreed. "Besides, they're in this together now."

"Why did I let you talk me into this?" Ron moaned.

*****

"Why do you think they locked us in here together?" Harry asked.

"To force us to get over our animosity?"

Harry snorted.

"Pansy thinks they've figured me out."

Harry raised his brows. "Do tell."

"I arrived in the dungeons yesterday … well …"

"Frustrated?" Harry ventured.

Draco nodded. "They seemed to think it was because of you."

Harry wrapped his arms around Draco's waist. "Not my fault we couldn't find a place in this entire castle to be alone."

Draco grinned, pulling Harry closer. "After all their trouble, it'd be a shame not to make use of this room now."
