Ginny's World

Ginny awoke on the morning of September 1st feeling very good about things. Very, very good about things.

The spring had been spent mourning the losses sustained in the war, burying the dead, memorialising those who lost their lives in both wars. Her family ached - none worse than George - over the loss of Fred, but she had managed to move on. She had Fred to thank for that. How she envied him his strength, even in death. He'd left a note behind for each of them. Almost as if he knew.

His words would always be her comfort.

~*~*~

The summer meant the rebuilding of Hogwarts. Ginny had wanted to help, had even gone so far as to tell her mother that she was going, no matter what.

Then her father stepped in. Ginny had never seen him so angry. His eyes were cold and his voice was calm when he told her he wanted to speak with her.

"Ginevra Weasley," he said, "I have never been so disappointed in you."

"I want to help at Hogwarts," she had argued.

"For once in your life, put what your mother wants before what you want."

So Ginny stayed with Molly.

~*~*~

But the summer was over now. Ginny didn't have to be the one left out any more. She wouldn't have to envy her brother and Hermione for spending all their time with Harry.

He hadn't written her but once all summer, and as time went on she got angrier and angrier. Angry at her mother for demanding she stay home. Angry at her father for taking her mother's side. Angry at circumstances that kept her and Harry apart. But not angry at Harry. Never angry with him.

They would be together soon, finally, and Ginny's heart couldn't stop racing. Tonight.

~*~*~

Ginny said a cursory goodbye to her parents at the train station, after they insisted on escorting her there. Honestly, she was seventeen, not a child, for Merlin's sake! She had fought in the war! It was bad enough she'd been cooped up at home all summer.

Oh, to be one of those whose parents had the decency to say farewell from a distance, rather than embarrassing her in front of everyone! She couldn't wait for her schooling to be over, so she could move out with Harry and get on with her life. Her life as Mrs Harry Potter.

~*~*~

Ginny entered the Great Hall, head held high, knowing she was going to be the envy of every witch there.

She approached the Gryffindor table searching for Harry, but she didn't see any eighth year Gryffindors. Before she had a chance to do anything, a friend of hers pulled Ginny into a seat, and Headmistress McGonagall began to speak.

Ginny's eyes searched the Great Hall and discovered a fifth student table had been added for eighth years. Her stomach fell as she saw Draco Malfoy lean in and kiss Harry. Her Harry!

When Harry returned the kiss, Ginny's world crumbled.

*rubs hands together gleefully* HA HA! Take that, Ginny Weasley. *smirks*

Now why does this response from you not surprise me in the least? Truth be told, I thought of you as I was posting it. :D

Hee! You should read the rest of the comments ... it looks like you're one of the few that feels badly for her. I had wanted her to come across as a typical teenager, not a horrible shrew, but what can I say? People on the H/D ship really don't like her. *shrugs*

I'm glad you felt bad for her. She is, after all, devastated. Even if her feelings for Harry aren't what she thinks they are. Thanks for reading.

Heh. You're not alone. Lots of people can't stand Ginny.

Thanks.

*laughs* I'm such a bitch for loving this as much as I do.

Oh, how I wish this was canon (well, part of it, anyway, as my greatest wish is that Severus survived...), rather than that horrible epilogue of doom.

[identity profile] ravenqueen55.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The epilogue. I spit on it. *spits*

Oh well, them's the breaks.
So, tell us more about this KISS. *g*

Even though I have lots of other stuff to write, I do believe I'll follow this one up a bit. People are just tooooo happy with poor Ginny's fate here.

Thanks for reading, hon.

Ha! YES!!!!!!

Eat cake and die Ginny!!!

err *cough* sorry about that...poor girl she must be devastated... yeah that's it. Just the right amount of compassion there.

Okay, I'm just dying at everyone's comments. :-) I honestly feel bad for Ginny. That would be heartbreaking, but honestly, she was a bit dense not to figure out by then that it was really over. :-D Lovely story, hon!

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, the comments! You must return and read the ones after you left yours. You'll crack up!

Thanks. I really wanted people to, not necessarily feel sorry for her (after all, she wasn't the most likeable the way I portrayed her in this - very much a typical teen), but at least acknowledge that she was hurt. I think I'll follow it up with another ficlet.

[identity profile] jamafanta.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
*snicker* That was so fun! Nyah, nyah, Ginny!

I have this complete and utter HATRED for Ginny Weasley. I really, really do. So this made me grin and giggle so hardcore.

:)

Thanks for that.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! You are not alone in your hatred for Ginny, if the comments here are any indication.

Thanks for reading.

[identity profile] twig-tea.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say, particularly the timing of this (the day after [livejournal.com profile] mistful managed to make me actually like Ginny), was extremely satisfying. I take it all back; I still dislike her character intensely and this was exactly what I wanted to happen ♥ I don't even feel all that terribly sorry for her. Once she falls in love for real (if she ever will, and I think she could), she'll realize how unlike love her obsession with Harry was. Which, by the way, you managed to communicate fantastically with the few details that are in here--her inability to be angry at Harry, and the way she thinks about how everyone will see her and the status of his name more than actually being with him. SO great!

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

I'm glad her feelings came across. I do think she's caught up in it all, and can't see that it's not love. And she's a typical teen here.

[identity profile] enablelove.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
oh no, i actually feel sorry for her!

you're evil :)

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww ... that's okay. You are one of the few, though.

Muahahah!

[identity profile] piratesmile331.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I love my H/D, but I do feel sorry for Ginny here. I felt sorry for her in the seventh book, too, because she really got shunted off to the side after JKR spent a lot of time in book six telling us what a powerful and passionate young witch she was becoming.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. You're one of the few if the comments are any indication. But I'm glad there's some compassion for her, because no matter her misguided feelings, she is crushed by this.

And the seventh book? She was treated as a child or worse, pushed into the background while Harry and the 'grown-ups' (only a year older than Ginny) went about their business. Yeah, for a strong character, besides her remaining to fight - just like Colin did - she was left as this nothing character. Definite fail. Personally, I'd have been offended enough to NOT go sailing back into Harry's arms after that. *shrugs*

[identity profile] thrnbrooke.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Tooo bad for Ginny! Sooo glad Harry isn't in her clutches! Bad JKR!

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Draco shall make everything right. :D

[identity profile] lire-casander.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ginny has what she deserves for being so egotistical and self-centered.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! She's a typical teen here. *nods*

[identity profile] kaykayen.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps the single letter all summer might have been a clue????? Maybe when she matures and truly finds real love, she'll realize the difference between her idolization of "The Boy Who Lived" and true love!

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. *g*

Exactly. I don't think she's an awful person, just caught up in her own misguided feelings.

Thanks.

[identity profile] suonguyen.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, loved this. Take that Ginny. She's so selfish and obsessed with herself. Harry so deserves better.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Glad you enjoyed.

[identity profile] violetage.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
How interesting that you've sort of packed into a nutshell all the things which I kind of dislike about Ginny. When she was younger, I thought she was cute, so shy and with a crush on Harry like that. It was cute.

But as she got older and she seemed to be so interested in Harry's prestige and power and all that stuff, things Harry himself was never interested in - never even wanted in the sense of being a public persona, I felt like she was seeing Harry as her ticket out of the burrow, riding on his coattails. That's not love. And knowing full well he was an orphan and had been badly treated as a child, knowing he'd want a family - that was just playing on his weaknesses.

I think this is why so many of us really actively dislike the poor girl. I think it sucks to be her on a lot of levels, but that's no reason to try to use someone you purport to love.

oops, sorry didn't mean to rant. anyways, cute drabblish thing :)

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Feel free to rant.

Yes, she was cute when she was younger, but that does get old, doesn't it?

I think she was caught up in her own feelings, and truly believed she loved him. I don't think she necessarily knowingly played on his weaknesses, though I think - even in canon, flaunting her 'relationships' in the hopes of getting his attention - she was well tuned to the act of manipulation by this point, and likely it was second nature. But I do believe she thought she was best for Harry, as much as he was the best for her.

Thanks for reading.

Awww, poor Ginny! I don't hate her, even if she irritates me a tiny bit. But I loved this story. And yes, the KISS! Whoa:)

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. You're one of the few that doesn't hate her, it seems. Thanks. Glad you liked.

what i can say? i love your fic,i hate ginny i can not even read the seventh book beacause i am a idiot and i can not reasit and read the epiloge firts and now i not want to read a book that finiish like that.

you know when i star to read you fic i think it was another stupid ginny-harry but line by line you make me hate her until in the end i just was hoping for something like that well done.i hatte ginny weasley she ruin the books for me.
tell wy the old manipulative dumbles can be gay ,but not harry?
he should be whit draco no that b*th.

sorry i just hate that...great fic thanks for share.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If it makes you feel any better, Ginny plays a minor role in the seventh book. A VERY minor role. Something rather unexpected, since she had been built up as a strong character beforehand.

Oh, you won't find any Ginny/Harry fics in this LJ. I may have them together as part of a storyline, but they will never be the focus.

I don't hate Ginny as such; I just believe her to be immature, and rather self-absorbed (but that's not unusual for someone her age). I also think she believes she loves Harry, and until she falls in love with someone for real, she won't know the difference. I don't believe any of her 'relationships' before Harry were anything but attempts at getting his attention, so she's never given herself the chance to develop genuine feelings for anyone. It's rather sad, really.

Hee! I think you can tell by the comments here that you're not alone in your dislike/hatred of Ginny. And I do believe that Draco is a better match for Harry. Even if he were heterosexual, I wouldn't see Ginny as the girl for him. Luna, yes ... but not Ginny. But that's just my opinion.

Glad you enjoyed the fic. And don't let Ginny ruin the books for you. They have so much more to offer than just the dynamic between Harry and her. Even the seventh book. You could read it right up to the epilogue and ignore the last few pages. Or it could form a nightmare that Harry wakes up from. :D

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

It's the immediate reaction I have after reading this.
So I actually stopped the the 6th book and that was pretty foggy, but I'm sure Ginny didn't really do anything big in any battle--true, false?

Ah, I love me daily dose of Ginny-bashing. ^___________________^

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I really didn't mean this to be Ginny-bashing; more a reflection of an immature girl who has a lot to learn about love and life.

Oh, you really should read the seventh book. Besides the crapilogue (which honestly, not just because of Harry & Ginny, fell completely flat and felt like a rushed, pieced-together few pages that were completely unnecessary), it was well worth the read. And no, Ginny did not play a major role at all. Hints here and there about what she was up to ... a small bit of interaction between her and Harry ... but that's about it.

Thanks for reading & commenting.

*falls off chair laughing at everyone's comments*

I love how you caught on that Ginny seems to love the idea of Harry, but not really Harry.

Just wondering if we could ever find out what happened that summer, and more about that kiss (Her Harry indeed! Lol)

As I was reading it something irked me and I couldn't figure out what it was - she say he only sent her one letter, but did she ever think to send him any?? I'm thinking not.

Very nice little fic!

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW! People are really about the Ginny hate.

Yeah ... I don't think she sees it, though. Until she has genuine feelings for someone, she will think that this is love.

I do believe I'll write a follow-up to this one, as so much was left unsaid. Harry is not the type of person to be mean to anyone (perhaps that he would kiss Draco in front of her is what irked you, because without the rest of the story, I kinda don't like that impression being left myself). So I really need to give the other point of view, if only for my own peace of mind.

Thanks.

I know I should be a good H/D shipper and rub my hands going all 'teehee', but I've never hated Ginny. Granted , she wasn't meant to be with Harry, but can she really be blamed for wanting him? And finding out you can't have what you think you want most is always a horrible ordeal. So I feel bad for Ginny. But mostly happy for our boys (oops, went into shipper mode there after all ;)).

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah ... you don't have to hate Ginny to be a good H/D shipper.

I think she truly believes she's in love, and has never given herself a chance to develop feelings for anyone else since she had a 'crush' on him before school ever started. And yeah, she's devastated. It's just fine to feel badly for her. AND happy for the boys. :D
