I gaze at my reflection in the mirror, unable to focus, unable to reason, unable to run. I am minutes away from sealing my fate, joining my future with the one who loves me. Surrounded by friends, loved ones, well-wishers. And suddenly I cannot breathe.

My ears are filled with buzzing. I hear voices I recognize but I understand nothing. Everything is a haze, unclear, unfocussed. My thoughts drift away from this place, away from these people. I see pale skin, fair hair, and eyes of stormy grey. My soul is there with him, adrift, while my body remains here.

But he doesn't know how I long for him, for his touch, for his kiss. I laugh inwardly, a jeering laugh at my hopelessness, as I imagine his reaction if I were to tell him.

Surprise, for we have been rivals for so long. Shock, yes, but more than that, so much more. I imagine laughter, scathing laughter, ripping me apart, mocking me, cursing me to a life alone, a life never lived, a life without love.

To thine own self be true ...

And so I face the day, and commit the ultimate betrayal ... that of my own heart.

If you can't be true to no one else you always have to be true to yourself. *sigh*

Ooh, this broke my heart! It was written so poetically but I felt horrible for poor Harry.

Excellent work nonetheless! Thanks for writing and sharing!

Really good, I was able to feel Harry's mood and all thanks to your clever use of 200 words. Amazing.
Thanks for sharing.

*cries*
Do you think I'd cause a scene if I ran down the aisle yelling "I object!"?

This was beautifully written. The angst was perfectly done and not, as is the norm, melodramatic. *applauds*
