Harry entered the local art gallery, an excited Draco by his side. They had been there countless times before, but Draco never tired of it.
"But it's all the same stuff!" Harry whinged.
"There are a few changes," Draco insisted as they wandered the well-worn galleries again.
Harry felt a wave of ... something pass by him, but when he looked at Draco, the blonde was engrossed in a painting. Harry looked at that something pond by that famous French somebody or other, wondering how people found this interesting.
A gathering crowd by a plain landscape in moonlight caught his attention.
"It touches my soul," one woman said. Another woman was mopping tears from her eyes. Children stood gaping. A man was blinking furiously, clutching at his chest.
Harry frowned, wondering what on earth was going on. No one had ever reacted that way before. He heard another sniff, but this time it was coming from his other side, from Draco. Who was still staring at the pond. With his shoulders shaking uncontrollably.
Harry looked from Draco to the growing crowd, back to Draco again. He surreptitiously pulled out his wand, casting a silent Finite Incantatum. The crowd dispersed almost immediately.
Earlier that week ...
Draco changed the channel; the end of the Muggle news was on, and there was an article about "paintings" that sold for hundreds, even thousands of pounds. Done by a dog. Draco watched the dog scratch away a surface layer of paint to reveal colours placed underneath by its owner. Muggles were truly gullible. They called that art!
Harry rounded on his boyfriend. "What did you do to them?"
"To them, nothing. The painting, however ..."
Harry glared.
"C'mon Harry," he chuckled, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. "The Muggles sometimes just make it too easy!"

Oooh! I wanted to do (I know, I'm insane) a "Kickoff" for the Wizard of the Month. Any chance you could mock up a flyer of sorts (I see that as being done on parchment for posting in store fronts, at news stands, etc. to advertise the mag)? I can send you the text tomorrow, which will include the year's worth of Wizards, already determined.
*smooches*
Awesome

Date: 2008-01-17 03:37 am (UTC)The crowd disbursed almost immediately. - Did you mean dispersed? Disburse is to pay out, disperse to scatter.

Date: 2008-01-17 05:39 am (UTC)Yes, I did. In fact, I looked at it when I read through it. Then again. And another time for good measure, thinking, "There's something not right about that." But I had a nattering teen in the background distracting me, which required I stop what I was doing. Later, in my tired state, I ended up forgetting that I meant to do something about it and I posted it. *headdesk* Thanks. *giggles* - I suppose they could have all started paying money to Draco for his trouble, but yeah ... I meant dispersed.

Date: 2008-01-17 10:34 pm (UTC)I find the same sometimes when people analyse a book or poem and say, "This is what the author means" when it's not that obvious. My son gave me an example from his English teacher, and my reaction was, "Wha?" Even after pondering it for a while, I totally could not get whatever the hell it was she seemed to think the author meant. And I consider myself pretty good at English.
I told him he could bring something of mine in for her to analyse, and then I could tell him if I REALLY meant that or not. He got a maniacal look on his face (he hates English, and isn't all that impressed with his current teacher). Heh.
