Narcissa sat at the Manor stewing. Honestly! Draco was a grown wizard, for Merlin's sake, and she had caught him snooping for gifts! And to make matters worse, when she had called him to task, he had thrown a quote at her from some ridiculous Muggle movie. "Bah, Humbug," whatever that meant.

When she had told him to get out, she didn't actually think he would do it. After all, where was he planning to go? She had to admit she was relieved when he returned home nearly right away, though he didn't look too pleased with her when she said he had to remain in his rooms. I mean really, what was he thinking? If he wanted to act like a child, she could certainly treat him like one.

She took a few calming breaths, not wanting to work herself into a state again. She had been surprised - no, downright shocked when Harry Potter had arrived. Even more shocked when Draco had left with him. Perhaps ...

She was grasping at straws, she knew it. Draco hadn't fared well in the wake of the court's decisions. He hid it well, but she knew that his father's fate - the Demetor's Kiss - had devastated Draco. For all his faults, and there were many, Lucius had loved his son, even if he had a less-than-conventional way of showing it. Draco knew that. His father had never had the chance to make it up to Draco, as she knew he'd wanted to. He had told his son how very sorry he was for everything that had befallen Draco, simply because he was his father's son. But that was all he'd had the chance to do before they took him away.

Narcissa had been worried about Draco going to work at Hogwarts, but it had been his choice. The court had ordered him to complete a ludicrous number of community service hours, in her opinion, though she knew it was preferable to the alternative, Azkaban. Draco had chosen Hogwarts for his work; he'd said it was only fitting. But he was heading into the lion's den, quite literally, to work alongside many Gryffindors, and a smattering of students from other houses. She knew it wouldn't be easy for him.

Sure enough, he came home each evening putting up a brave front, but she knew. She could see. He was more than tired, he was beaten. She could sense that his fire, his drive, a large part of what made him the feisty son she loved was fading.

But something had changed a short time ago. She saw her son beginning to come back to life, just a little bit. He seemed to work longer hours, for he got home later each day, but he was starting to regain his sense of spirit. There was a lightness to his step that had been missing, a pronounced set to his shoulders once again.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Draco's return. She marched herself over to the Floo only to find Harry Potter there too. And Draco looked ... happy. Yes, there was no mistaking it, he looked excited about something.

They were going to go for a walk. But Draco always walked through the gardens on his own in winter. It was his time to reflect, he had always told her. Could it be ...?

Whatever was happening between the two former rivals, Narcissa had to admit that it was good for Draco. She wanted the best for him, always. So if the best happened to be Harry Potter, then she would do what she could for her son. She was his mother, after all.

Okay, this one's my favourite so far. I love Narcissa's voice in this, and the way she can see so easily through her son, but also the slight helplessness she seems to feel as to how best to help him. Tell her Sweets says buying lube and chocolate spread will help Draco best *nods*

Lovey Hon, x

Awww... the power of a mother's love.

I hope she remembers this when she walks in on them doing the nasty later. *smirk*

Hee, Narcissa's musings here are so delightful to read, I loved how indignant she was at Draco's "Bah, humbag!" *giggles*

And yay, even she can see how happy Harry makes Draco. :D

*snickers* - I'll let you pass that little word of advice on to Draco's mother.

Thanks, Sweets ♥

Hee! Well, I captured Harry's thoughts yesterday, then Draco's pov today. But I felt that Narcissa's voice was missing, so I snuck in a second one today, and tied it back to Harry's surprise at how motherly she was being.

As for her walking in on them, I'll leave that one to you.

The rating may go up, but Narcissa will not be an observer, however unintentional.

Glad you enjoyed her musings.

Moms know, though it would be pretty hard to miss the change. *hugs Narcissa*

OOOHHHH! Two installments in one day! I was so excited to see this! I love your Narcissa.
Time for Harry and Draco to come in from the cold, have some hot chocolate and go upstairs and shag each other silly relax.

Heh. This wasn't intentional, but after I posted Draco's pov and thought about Harry's reaction regarding Narcissa's maternal behaviour, I thought she needed to have a voice. So ... you got two today! (I really need to finish some birthday fics too, but I got carried away with this).

I'm sure there will be some ... relaxing in the near future.

Narcissa's POV is really the cherry on top of the last two installments! Love the outside view and especially her insight into Draco and his struggles. Fantastic!

It's lovely to see that, no matter who they are, who they follow or how they think of the rest of the world, the Malfoys are really a family, and that Narcissa is, above any other thing, a loving mum.

I love that Narcissa has forgiven him. I didn't think she'd tell him to leave over a silly thing like snooping. And that she can see Harry has changed her boy. Takes a Mum to notice these things.
Lovely still.

Yup, yup. His parents (as warped as Lucius's motives were and as stupid as his actions were) love Draco more than anything else.

And go Mama Malfoy! She just wants her son to be happy. ♥

From: [identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com
Heh. She only 'kicked him out' temporarily, in exasperation, to stop his snooping (and even then, she hadn't expected him to actually LEAVE). *g*

And yeah ... mums know. ♥

*waits impatiently for next prompt*

'Tis there.

I've been looking forward to using this one.

Thank you for being patient. ; )

Hee! I saw it, and sure, I can use it!

*g* I just get into writing, and want to keep going. And patience is a virtue I sadly do not have. *sighs*

Hmm....Narcissa's pretty insightful, isn't she? So nice that she approves of Draco being with Harry.
Great chapter!

Yup. She's a mum and she knows her baby. We'll see if she approves, but for now she's glad that Draco seems happy again.

Thanks ♥
