Harry howled with laughter. "You got kicked out of the house for snooping?"

"Yes, well, Mother wasn't impressed."

"But you were there when I arrived a short time later."

"I was confined to my room," Draco said quietly.

This made Harry laugh even more. "You were grounded?" he asked incredulously. The thought of a fully-qualified wizard, an adult, a man who up until fairly recently had been operating under the direction of the darkest wizard of all time, being grounded by his mummy was uproariously funny.

"Laugh it up, Potter."

"Aw, c'mon Draco. You've got to admit it's funny."

"Yes, well, perhaps for you."

"Well it serves you right, snooping for presents. Why would you do that?"

"What do you mean, why? Because I want to know what she got me for Christmas."

"Christmas is only a couple weeks away. Can't you wait?"

Draco pouted. "I've never been all that good at waiting. Besides, I'm not all that fond of surprises."

"What?" Harry couldn't believe his ears. "But the surprise is half the fun!"

"Surely you snooped for presents when you were a boy," Draco challenged.

"No, I never got any presents, so there was nothing to snoop for."

"Shit, Harry, I'm sorry. I forgot."

"No need to be sorry. It isn't your fault my aunt and uncle are prats."

"I'd like to meet them in a dark alley some day."

Harry chuckled. "Not likely. Besides, I've washed my hands of them. Now back to you. Why is it you can't wait two weeks to --"

"Moving on," Draco said, abruptly changing the subject, "what's this about you telling the she-weasel that you're through?"

Harry allowed the change of subject, reserving in his mind the right to bring it up again at a later date.

"Like I said the other day, I just don't feel that ... I dunno ... passion, I suppose. And I'm not willing to settle for anything less, so I had to tell her. I mean, it's not like we were really together any more anyway, but she obviously thought we were, or that we would be again. She tried to kiss me --"

"Tried? It looked like she was doing more than trying," Draco pointed out.

"Well, whatever she tried, I stopped her. And then we talked."

"I can't imagine that went well."

"No, it didn't. But it had to be done."

"And now it's over?"

"Now it's over."

"And how do you feel about that?"

Harry searched his mind for what he really felt. He'd assumed that he would feel remorse, guilt, maybe even a bit of panic at the thought of doing something so final. But he didn't feel any of those things. As the knowledge hit him, of how it was he felt about the end of his relationship with Ginny, Harry gave Draco a small smile.

"Relieved."

Ooh, harsh Narcissa! I have to confess that I used to be exactly the same as Draco, but I was six. Boys ...

This is a comment for both quickies.

Love that Narcissa could ground Draco. Harry's right, it is funny.
And neither now has a significant other. And the UST is obvious.
Excellent.

Looking forward to see what you will do with the next prompt.

I am so loving this! (If I haven't said it before, thank you very much for sharing with all of us!)

My favorite part was Draco saying he wanted to meet Vernon and his wife in a dark alley! Feeling a wee bit protective of Harry, are we?

*giggles*

I can't wait for more!

Awww... :) I'm glad Harry's doing what he feels right, and it's quite lovely how he can talk to Draco about such personal issues. Yay for the boys getting closer and closer!

Heheh, your Draco sounds so indignant, and him being grounded is hilarious indeed. *snickers* :D

I'm with Harry. I like surprises, and have never snooped for Christmas gifts. But I have a friend who did as a child, and still does now.

No more obstacles, at least not in the form of a ginger-haired clingy hanger-on. ;)

Thanks, hon. I'm so excited that you're reading this, even though H/D isn't your thing.

BTW, I'll get to reading the others too, if I can slow down on the writing long enough to do so. ;)

Thanks, sweetie!

I think it's a combination of being protective of Harry (at least the little-boy-Harry that wrote the letter to Santa) and being disgusted at Muggles getting away with treating a wizard that way.

Yeah, I found the picture of Draco grounded rather amusing myself. Heh.

I don't think that Harry would talk about that stuff if Draco hadn't found the letter. It became the catalyst that opened up the lines of communication, thanks to Draco's reaction (no pity).

Hee! I thought Narcissa grounding him was amusing.

Oh the picture in my head of Narcissa sending a grown-up petulant Draco off to his room is priceless.

Harry should feel relieved. Now it's time to embrace what he and Draco share!

Just loving this series so much!

Ok, I'm just starting to read this and I promise I'll leave comments on how wonderful each part is after I finish reading them all, but right now I just want to know what happens next :P

Also I couldn't help but comment on the christmas present thing since I am very much proud of the fact that I, since I was little, convinced my mother to let me open gifts before christmas :3 how very Slytherin of me :D

From: [identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com
Heh. Fell free to not comment on each part. I'll often do that if I read a series, as I just don't want to stop reading after each part. I'm just glad you're enjoying it. *g*

That is VERY Slytherin of you. I presume your mother is a Hufflepuff? :D

Indeed she's way too mushy... Either that or that we're not that big on christmas since I figured out that Santa wasn't real by the age of 4 and told my parents to stop pretending! xD

Okay ... I have teens and still sign one present "from Santa." My mom did the same with me. ;)
