Ginny's World

Ginny awoke on the morning of September 1st feeling very good about things. Very, very good about things.

The spring had been spent mourning the losses sustained in the war, burying the dead, memorialising those who lost their lives in both wars. Her family ached - none worse than George - over the loss of Fred, but she had managed to move on. She had Fred to thank for that. How she envied him his strength, even in death. He'd left a note behind for each of them. Almost as if he knew.

His words would always be her comfort.

The summer meant the rebuilding of Hogwarts. Ginny had wanted to help, had even gone so far as to tell her mother that she was going, no matter what.

Then her father stepped in. Ginny had never seen him so angry. His eyes were cold and his voice was calm when he told her he wanted to speak with her.

"Ginevra Weasley," he said, "I have never been so disappointed in you."

"I want to help at Hogwarts," she had argued.

"For once in your life, put what your mother wants before what you want."

So Ginny stayed with Molly.

~*~*~

But the summer was over now. Ginny didn't have to be the one left out any more. She wouldn't have to envy her brother and Hermione for spending all their time with Harry.

He hadn't written her but once all summer, and as time went on she got angrier and angrier. Angry at her mother for demanding she stay home. Angry at her father for taking her mother's side. Angry at circumstances that kept her and Harry apart. But not angry at Harry. Never angry with him.

They would be together soon, finally, and Ginny's heart couldn't stop racing. Tonight.

~*~*~

Ginny said a cursory goodbye to her parents at the train station, after they insisted on escorting her there. Honestly, she was seventeen, not a child, for Merlin's sake! She had fought in the war! It was bad enough she'd been cooped up at home all summer.

Oh, to be one of those whose parents had the decency to say farewell from a distance, rather than embarrassing her in front of everyone! She couldn't wait for her schooling to be over, so she could move out with Harry and get on with her life. Her life as Mrs Harry Potter.

~*~*~

Ginny entered the Great Hall, head held high, knowing she was going to be the envy of every witch there.

She approached the Gryffindor table searching for Harry, but she didn't see any eighth year Gryffindors. Before she had a chance to do anything, a friend of hers pulled Ginny into a seat, and Headmistress McGonagall began to speak.

Ginny's eyes searched the Great Hall and discovered a fifth student table had been added for eighth years. Her stomach fell as she saw Draco Malfoy lean in and kiss Harry. Her Harry!

When Harry returned the kiss, Ginny's world crumbled.

I LOVE to hate Ginny Weasley. For some reason her character really irritates me. I hate the thought of her ending up with Harry under any circumstances.
I loved this fic. The gradual build up, the insight into Ginny's mindset was good. And the simplicity of the ending, a kiss... brilliant.

Sucks to be Ginny. LOL She was a bit immature here but I did feel bad for her. Unrequited love stinks, no matter who you are.

I honestly don't hate her though ... I didn't mind her in the books or anything. I just think her relationship with Harry felt a bit too forced. :\

Anyway, this was the way things should work out! H/D forever! ;D

Wonderful job!

Just a thank you for all the marvellous fics you've given us.
I put this one on my Harry Potter rec (http://v-chan-paradise.livejournal.com/4231.html#cutid2) list.

Hi!
I usually don't like Ginny but here I just feel sorry for her. She was just dreaming and she's 17 in the fic. I can remenber dreaming about a boy at 17...and I didn't get him either :(

I feel really bad for Ginny. Harry left her with every impression that he cared for her, of course she'd expect that they'd be together again. And what a brutal way for her to find out. *cuddles her*

I feel really horrible for Ginny here. I think you did a really nice job of showing the irrationalities of her teenage mind. I'd like to think that after a couple of hexes, she gets over it and moves on with someone way hotter than Harry, who was kind of a dick for not writing her to say that you know, "Hey, JSYK, we're still not dating and also I have a boyfriend now, TY!"

Nice work. It's very evocative.

Urgh, honestly it's fic like these that make me dislike the Harry/Draco sometimes. I just don't get the need for gratituus bashing, especially as most of it just seems like an irrational hatred or her because she's in the way of our ship or because there is this weird interpretation of her character - that she likes him for his fame or was using him and other boys etc. Don't know where it comes from - my books actually have a pretty cool Ginny and I have no idea where all this hatred for her in the comments is coming from.

Honestly, think it's time to jump ship. I'm sure the Ron/Harry crowd doesn't bash Ginny for the sake of it. Poor girl.
