"Can you keep a secret?" Lily asked her brother.
"'Course I can," Al said indignantly. "I'm not the one who always --"
"This one's huge," Lily interrupted.
"Well, it's not really that big, is it? I mean, we're not going to get into trouble for not telling anyone, are we?" Al didn't plan on any more detentions this week. He and Scorpius had already had two.
"No, it's nothing like that, it's just ..." Lily scanned the room, then grabbed her brother by the arm and dragged him out through the portrait hole, down the hall and into a storage cupboard. "We can talk here," she said. Waving her wand, she muttered Lumos.
Al looked at his sister incredulously. "This is a bloody cupboard, Lily! What are you playing at?"
"Shh, someone will hear us. I didn't want anyone else to hear what I have to say."
"Fine then. Spit it out and get it over with so we can get back to the common room," he commanded.
"Did you know that Dad and Mr Malfoy ..." Her voice trailed off and she stared at something behind Al, not looking him in the eye.
He chuckled, relieved that this was all it was. "That they were enemies? Of course I knew. I thought everyone did. That doesn't change the fact that Scorpius and I are friends, though."
"No, that's not what I mean, Al. They weren't just enemies."
"I know. They had some major fights, they hated each other, and Mr Malfoy did some stuff that Dad never wanted to talk about. He stopped Mum from telling me one time. Then Mum stopped Dad from telling me something terrible he had done to Mr Malfoy. It was a weird conversation, but don't worry, Lily. It won't affect my friendship with Scorpius. He knows all this too."
"Al, they were together. Dad and Mr Malfoy were together."
"Of course they were together. They were in the same year at school, and they fought in the same war."
"No, Al. They were together, like Mum and Dad are together now."
Al stared at his sister. After almost a minute of silence, he finally asked, "What?"
"Yeah. Apparently it was after the war."
"That's crap, and you know it!" Al barked at his sister. "Who told you that?"
"Our cousin Rose. She heard Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione one night after they found out you and Scorpius were friends. Uncle Ron said something about it not being a good idea at all, and that it could only lead to trouble. They apparently said a lot of stuff, but one thing was clear. Uncle Ron never wants Mum to find out about it. Never."
As Al tore open the door, Lily called, "Where are you going?"
"To find out if my best friend knows anything about this."
"And then what?"
"I guess we'll have to figure it out together, won't we?"
Lily watched her brother head towards the Slytherin dungeons, a feeling of trepidation falling over her. Merlin, I hope he doesn't do anything stupid!

This looks like a brialliant set up, I already love your Al *g*
will there be Harry/Ginny? Will Harry/Draco resurface? Or can't you say?
♥

Glad you like it. ♥ I have to admit, I like Al too.
You know ... I was headed to bed, and suddenly a conversation between Lily & Al seeped into my mind to match this prompt, and I meant to capture a couple of lines, just to prod myself with tomorrow (er ... later today), and I ended up writing the whole damn thing.
Grr ... plot bunnies will be the death of me. From lack of sleep, I swear! *g*

I liked that glimpse of Harry and Ginny and the "weird conversation" through Al's eyes. I think it's fun when you can pull off a scene like that where the reader knows more about it than the character telling it.
Great start - looking forward to more!

Yeah, I like when the reader can think, "I know what it is!" that the character doesn't.
Thanks.

stupidcunning! *is excited* :DHeheh, I love how confused he was at first... not so quick, that one. *g*
But yay, you're starting a new series! ^_^ *hugs you tight*

Well, in fairness, being told your Dad was with another man, when you have never known him to be with anyone but your Mum, isn't something you'd be expecting.
Just what I need ... another series! I really am insane. *clings*

...
Hee, go Sesheta! Embrace the insane fic love! ^_^
*is a useless cue-person and proud of it* :D

Then another prompt comes along, giving me another idea ... and another series is born.
The Missing Years (the series I started when I finished DH) is sitting off on its own, looking lonely ... waiting for me to return to it. Must do that soon. At least with one more installment. Oooh! And Return to Hogwarts left off after two or three as well. BAH! Maybe I should forget my novels and just write fanfic full time. ;)

Um ... this one will likely be updated once a week, depending on the AWDT prompts.

so will this have some of the Al/Scorpius? O.O

Not sure about the AS/S part. It's definitely a Harry/Draco fic. For now, Al and Scorpius are good friends.

Luffs it!
