Alastor Moody was a bit perplexed by the current situation.

He had never been a big fan of Severus Snape, but he had seen Dumbledore's memories in his Pensieve, so he had to accept him, however reluctantly. But it didn't mean he had to like him.

Nobody liked the situation, and certainly nobody wanted to live with the surly Slytherin, but it wasn't Moody's decision to make. No, this house belonged to Potter, so he alone could make that choice.

But Lucius Malfoy's son? That pompous, arrogant child who felt he was more worthy than anyone else? No, he didn't have time for the likes of Draco Malfoy. Lately, however, Draco just looked scared whenever Potter wasn't around. Moody chuckled to himself. He supposed the boy should be scared.

Potter surprised him. Moody thought that he and others around him had taught Harry better. Why on earth he trusted - or appeared to trust - the other boy escaped logic in his mind.

Potter even went so far as to ignore his friends and their advice. They insisted on pointing out the past actions of the Death Eater wannabe - as if anyone could forget! But still Potter let him stay here. He defended him, and got annoyed on more than one occasion, especially with Ron, when he went on about Malfoy junior.

Then again, if Potter's account of events was true, Dumbledore himself had offered the younger Malfoy refuge. But Albus had been far too trusting for his own good over the years, in Moody's mind. Even still, he doubted that Albus would have trusted the sneak. Refuge was one thing, but trust had to be earned. And he most certainly hadn't earned anything close to trust with his past actions.

However, it was certainly easier to keep watch over him here, and it wasn't as if the boy ever went out. Although his motto was 'Constant Vigilance', Moody had to admit that he saw nothing wrong with keeping one's friends close, but one's enemies closer.

Maybe Potter had learned something after all.
