Kisses Don't Count

"Everyone must bring something to celebrate Yule," Hermione instructed. "And Hershey's Kisses don't count." She waved a finger at Seamus. "Even if they're tied up with a pretty ribbon."

Seamus looked affronted. "I will have you know those were festive kisses last year." Ron snorted.

"Be that as it may," Hermione chastised, "I expect you to make an effort. We can all bake a little something to spread the holiday cheer."

"But none of that vile fruitcake," Pansy warned.

Harry watched Hermione's face fall and Ron's contort in support of his wife. Harry suppressed a laugh, knowing full well that Ron - along with most of the room, he'd wager - had been thinking the very same thing. Pansy merely had the balls to say it.

"Hermione, why don't you make a Yule log for the occasion?" Draco suggested. "The one you made for the Christmas fundraiser last year was delicious, and I wouldn't mind sampling it again this year."

The room fell silent. Draco rarely complimented anyone. He and Hermione - though civil towards one another - had never completely moved beyond their past.

Hermione's smile lit up the room, and Harry reckoned that Ron's gobsmacked expression alone would have been worth the effort for Draco. "Why thank you, Draco. I think I will," Hermione said, still beaming.

Harry leaned in and whispered in Draco's ear, "You are sooo getting some tonight."

Draco's eyes twinkled and he leaned back to rest on Harry. He winked. "I'm counting on it."

Yay to those Slytherins... one ballsy enough to make a complaint against the fruitcake and the other... doing a good deed just so he could get something fully self serving out of it!! Love this sweet little story!!♥

Smart on Harry to see when a good deed deserves rewarding.

I don't know if I'm glad Draco could ease a bit the tension in the air, or if I'm aggravated that he just wanted to get some out of it LMAO

I hate fruit cake too! But only Pansy is game enough to say so, loved Draco complimenting Hermione so that he can get a reward for it out of Harry!

Fntastic job!
