On that one I will agree with you. Random spiders - but they still all scare the crap outta me - and I've never seen a snake in the wild. Lived here for a very long time and only ever seen red back spiders a handful of times. No more creepy crawlies, I don't think, than anywhere else in the world.

It's just hot and dry.
